Harvest Moon

Photo:  Kari Davidson

harvest moon holding my first grandchild

This haiku received an Honorable Mention in a contest sponsored by the Japan Information & Culture Center in Washington, DC.  The beautiful harvest moon photo was taken by my friend Kari Davidson.

It was written for my granddaughter, Aspen, who was born in August 2013.  As I held her in those early months, I was delighted over and over at my new status as a grandmother.  Like her father before her, my firstborn son who taught me how to be a mother, she was teaching me how to be a grandmother.  What a great harvest my life has become, just by loving and by being loved.
