My entry in HSA Anthology 2017

benediction
the temptation to
check my phone

This is more of a senryu than a haiku--a lighthearted look at human nature, rather than nature nature.  We took Kevin's mom to church Easter Sunday of 2016.  As it turns out, this would be her last trip to church.  When the service was over, I had that compulsion that we have these days when something ends and before the next thing begins, to look at our phones to see what we've missed since the last time we looked at our phones.  Ahhh!  Tsk, tsk, tsk.  I didn't do it right there in the pew.  I waited until we got in the car.
