I was so excited to be included in this anthology. I love children and their books. I would have been happy to have just one of my haiku appear in this book, but they chose 9! Yippee! I hope it will be a legacy for my children and grandchildren. Most of these haiku were inspired by them.
From the editor's preface:
My vision for this collection is for these poems to be read each day throughout the year. Read them with your child or grandchild, gift them to a friend whose children no longer live at home to spark memories from the past, or spontaneously sift through the book on a cloud-drift day. Spend time savoring each poem, share memories, or write poems together inspired by that day’s haiku.
~ Jessica Malone Latham
Below are my haiku that were included:
winter sun
butter melting
on warm pancakes
unfinished sampler
the small hearts
not yet crossed
baby's breath
the rocking
of treetops
birdsong
a note slipped
under my door
chrysalis
her first pair
of earrings
faces pressed
against school bus windows
wild sunflowers
grandpa's soft shirt
the open arms
of a scarecrow
small girl
asleep at the airport
her flyaway hair
angels
just out of reach
feather dusting
